On this Christmas Eve, we cast our gaze to the mother of Christ to learn from her very own Christmas awakening by examining the Magnificat in Luke 1.  From her great song of faith, we learn of the three types of people to whom Christmas can truly come.  Though a worldly Christmas is often measured in dollars and sense, Mary's song teaches the true Christmas will always come to humble.  Though a worldly Christmas is often about being sated with food and things, Mary's words reminds us the true Christmas will always come to the hungry.  Those who are hungry for God will always find Him.  Though a worldly Christmas may celebrate getting what you want, Mary's Magnificat shows us the true Christmas always comes to helpless.  This teaching was given on Friday, December 24, 2015.  This podcast is a ministry of First Baptist Church of Bogalusa, La.  Thank you for listening!

The Christmas story is full of individual awakenings.  Pastor Greg Whaley takes us to a Christmas awakening each Sunday of Advent through his sermon series "Christmas Awakenings."  In this teaching, we turn to Joseph, who initially, was not keen on the idea of raising the child of another.  But His heart was awakened to new possibilities of God's power by the Truth being born in him through the angel's visitation.  His Christmas was then true and real, not a pretend Christmas of his own making.  This teaching was given on Sunday, November 29, 2015.  This podcast is a ministry of First Baptist Church of Bogalusa, La.  Thank you for listening!

The Christmas story is full of those who were not afraid to come near to Christmas.  In this sermon from the Christmas is Five Words series, Pastor Whaley looks at three people in the Christmas story to whom Christmas came near.  Through Joseph's nearness to Christmas, we learn that grace is always the law.  From Elizabeth's nearness to Christmas, we learn the Christian life is marked by joy almost as much as it is marked by grace.  From Mary's nearness to Christmas, we learn all things are possible in Christ.  This sermon was preached on Sunday, December 14, 2015.  This podcast is a ministry of First Baptist Church of Bogalusa, La.  Thank you for listening!

The story of Christ's birth is riddled with paradox, but non of them so great as the annunciation by the angelic choir to the shepherds. Never has so great a heavenly multitude given such important and royal news to a least likely group of people. However within the annunciation is the answer to the paradox. Listen as Pastor Whaley expounds upon Luke 2:8-20 and shows us the extent, clarity, and consistent message of God's annunciation to us about His Son.

Of all the mysteries of the Christmas story with which the modern mind struggles, none is perhaps more unbelievable than the virgin birth. It is a mystery not to be explained, but rather to be lived inside of. Pastor Whaley explores living in this mystery by looking at the words of Mary found in Luke 1:52-55. Christmas is full of the mystery of humility over pride, of poverty over wealth, and of mercy over judgment.
