On Thanksgiving Sunday, Pastor Whaley takes us to I Timothy 4 where Paul encourages believers to truly give thanks by recognizing three important truths:  everything made by God is good because God is always and only good, nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude, and God's word and prayer sanctify His blessings to us.  The teaching finishes with an exhortation to let our thanksgiving be an active verb rather than a passive one.  This sermon was preached on Sunday, November 23, 2014.  This podcast is a ministry of First Baptist Church of Bogalusa, Louisiana.

In the final installment of our Misremembering the Bible series, Pastor Whaley examines the axiom "to thine own self be true."  Far from actually being in the Bible, this expression is antithetical to the teaching of Christ found in Matthew 16:24-26.  There, Jesus reminds us that true life is not found in being true to ourselves, but in denying ourselves for His sake.  This message was preached on Sunday, November 9, 2014.  This podcast is a ministry of First Baptist Church of Bogalusa, La.  Thank you for listening!

We often bandy about the phrase "This, Too, Shall Pass," but is it really true?  In this sermon from the Misremembering the Bible series, Pastor Greg Whaley examines the phrase through the lens of 2 Corinthians 4:16-18.  Beyond mere waiting for affliction to pass away, the believer can know that avoidance of suffering is impossible, but God uses affliction to produce in us an eternal weight of glory in the reality of that which does not pass away - the very word of very God.  This sermon was preached on Sunday, November 2, 2014.  This podcast is a ministry of First Baptist Church.  Thank you for listening.
