In the sermon series Misremembering the Bible, Pastor Greg Whaley calls us to move beyond the tired cliches to find out what the Bible really has to say.  This week, Pastor Greg examines the saying "To Err is Human, To Forgive, Divine" in the light of Colossians 3:12-17.  While the saying maybe true in a broad sense, it is incomplete according to the scriptures.  Forgiveness is a trait of all of those who have experienced the magnificence forgiveness of Christ in their life.  This sermon was preached on Sunday, September 28, 2014.  This is podcast is a ministry of First Baptist Church of Bogalusa, Lousiana.  Thank you for listening.

Pastor Whaley continues his sermon series entitled Misremembering the Bible by taking a look at the familiar phrase "Cleanliness is Next to Godliness."  While the phrase has great usage in the vernacular of the church, it is not found in the Bible.  In Mark 7, Jesus shows us that we are defiled from within and are in need of cleansing from without through Him alone.  The idea that we can clean ourselves up in order to find more favor with God can lead to a wrong understanding of God and salvation.

This sermon was preached on Sunday, September 14, 2014.  This podcast is a ministry of First Baptist Church of Bogalusa, La.  Thank you for listening.

Lament into Hope

Micah Collins fills in for Pastor Whaley this week. Micah takes a look at Lamentations 3 and speaks to us about the nature of lament and hope. Micah highlights that within the Christian life lament and hope should be so unalterably entwined that the former must inevitably turn into the latter. Further, Micah teaches that the hope we must garner and treasure can only be the eternal life bought for us by our Savior Jesus Christ. This sermon was preached on Sunday, September 7, 2014. This podcast is a ministry of First Baptist Church of Bogalusa. Thank you for listening.

Pastor Whaley begins a new sermon series examining some of the often quoted sayings in our culture that are erroneously attributed to the Bible.  In this sermon, Greg considers the saying, "God helps those who help themselves," which is not only not in the Bible, but in fact, the Bible says something entirely different.  The Bible tells us God helps the helpless.  And the man who trusts in himself is like a shrub eking out an existence in a barren land, while the man who trusts in God is like a tree planted by the water.  This sermon was preached on Sunday, August 31.  This podcast is a ministry of First Baptist Church of Bogalusa, La.  Thank you for listening.
